Imagine that you could send a part of yourself to work every day while you, or the rest of you, remained blissfully unaware of the daily grind. This is what Lumon Industries promises its employees in the Apple TV psychological drama Severance. The main protagonist Mark Scout, played by Adam Scott, chooses to undergo a medical procedure where he is “severed” – a chip is implanted in his brain that creates a separate identity, called an “innie,” that is activated every day when he steps into the office elevator.
